BIOANALYTICA GENOTYPE SA was established in December 2004 as a biotech startup aiming to provide specialised molecular cytogenetic research and application services to the biomedical Community.

 

Was funded by BIOANALYTICA SA, a leading stakeholder in the greek market for molecular diagnostics and laboratory infrastructure, and by the researcher Dr. Georgia Bardi, Associate Professor of Experimental Clinical Genetics at the Medical school of Lund University, Sweden and former Director of the Cytogenetics facility at Saint Savas Oncology hospital of Athens.

 

Is co-financed by the Greek General Secretariat of Research and Technology under the 3rd Community Support Program (03 Praxe 26).

Sample Collection

 

Mark the patient name on the test vial. Fill up the sample collection form. Send both sample and sample collection form to the lab. Inform lab for the sample collection.

 

SPECIMEN TYPE

For appropriate specimen type check the specimen type in the assay specification box of the services or contact the laboratory)

 

PCR / RT-PCR / RT-Nested PCR / Quantitative RT-PCR

 

-Peripheral blood: 5.0 mL of peripheral blood collected from adults (2.0 mL from children), in an EDTA tube (lavender cap). Mix well after collection (by inverting the tube) to avoid cellular aggregates. To be received by the laboratory within 24h from collection. Storage and transportation at Room Temperature (15-280C).

 

-Bone marrow: 1.0-2.0 mL of bone marrow collected from adults (1.0 mL from children), in an EDTA tube (lavender cap). Mix well (by inverting the tube) after collection to avoid cellular aggregates. To be received by the laboratory within 24h from collection. Storage and transportation at Room Temperature (15-280C).

 

- Solid tumor biopsy: 0.2 cm3 of tissue from surgical biopsy in: a) a sterile tube with 3.0-5.0 mL of normal saline. To be received by the laboratory within 12h from collection. Storage and transportation at 2-80C. b) a snap frozen sterile tube. To be received by the laboratory within 48h from collection. Storage and transportation on dry ice.

 

INFECTIOUS DISEASES

 

-Viral load for HAV, HBV, HCV and HCV genotyping: 5.0 mL of peripheral blood collected in an EDTA tube (to be received by the laboratory within 6h from collection. Storage and transportation at 2-80C) or 2.0 ml of plasma (1.0 mL from children) that has been separated from blood in an EDTA tube (lavender cap). The separation of plasma must be performed within 6h from the collection of blood, with centrifugation 800-1600 x g for 20min at room temperature. Plasma is transferred to a sterile, polypropylene tube. To be received by the laboratory within 48h from collection. Storage and transportation at -20oC.

 

-HPV screening and genotyping: 5 mL in liquid-based cytology (LBC) PreservCyt® (tube ThinPrep liquid PAP) from Cytyc Corporation (collection of the cervical cells -sample according to the manufacturer guidelines-). To be received by the laboratory within 96h from collection. Storage and transportation at 2-80C.

 

-Infections of the Respiratory System(for example, detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis): Sputum, bronchial secretions and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) in a sterile, leak-proof container. Respiratory specimens must be decontaminated, processed by NaOH-NALC digestion. Place each specimen in a separate, individually sealed bag. To be received by the laboratory within 72h from collection. Storage and transportation at 2-80C.

 

-Urogenital infections (for example, detection of Chlamydia trachomatis): 10-50mL of the early morning urine sample in a clean polypropylene tube without any preservatives. The patient should not have urinated during the last two hours. Female endocervical or vaginal, male urethral swabs specimens that have been collected and transferred with the use of 3mL Transfer Culture medium 2SP, Bartels ChlamTrans, SRG CTM or M4. Large white swab must be removed before sending to the lab. To be received by the laboratory within 24h from collection. Storage and transportation at 2-8oC.

 

-Viral /Neurological/Systemic/Eye Infections (for example, CMV, ParvoB-19, HSV1,2, VZV): 1.0 mL of CSF or oscular fluid or amniotic fluid collected from adults (0.25 mL of CSF from children) in a sterile container. 3.0 ml of plasma (2.0 mL from children) that has been separated from the blood in an EDTA tube (lavender cap). The separation of plasma must be performed within 6h from the collection of blood, with centrifugation 800-1600 x g for 20min at room temperature. Plasma is transferred to a sterile, polypropylene tube. To be received by the laboratory within 48h from collection. Storage and transportation at -20oC.

 

SEQUENCING

0.7μgplasmid 3-10kb, 1.5μg plasmid 10-20kb, 10μg cosmid 30-45kb, 0.05μg of PCR product up to 200bp, 0.2μg of PCR product up to 200-500bp, 0.3μg of PCR product up to 500-1000bp, 0.5μg of PCR product up to 2000 bp or two PCR reactions (100μl) for unpurified PCR product. Primers should be 20μl of 10pmol/μl. Samples should not contain EDTA.
